USS Underhill operated in the Atlantic in Cort Div 56 along with the USS Kenyon DE683, USS Gillette DE681, USS Gunason DE795, USS Major DE 796, and USS Weeden DE797. In January, 1945, these ships were transferred to the Phillipine Sea Command. To the best of our knowledge, the USS Underhill was the only ship in this group to see any action and was sunk on July 24, 1945 by a Japaneese kaiten.
